2026 Global Korea Scholarship (GKS/KGSP) opening soon for Undergraduate

The National Institute for International Education Niied has announced the application period for the 2026 GKS undergraduate program. Applications will open on September 15, 2025 and close on October 31 2025. A major change this year is the introduction of an online application system. All applications must be submitted through the official Study in Korea website. This new online process makes applying easier and more accessible for international students.

Scholarship Quotas for 2026

  • 280 slots available for the undergraduate.

Scholarship Benefits

Selected students will receive comprehensive support including:

  • Full tuition coverage
  • Round-trip airfare
  • A monthly living allowance
  • Korean language training fees

Applicants who already have a TOPIK Level 5 or 6 certificate will not need to do the one-year language training. They will also get an extra grant of 300000 KRW which is about 215 US dollars.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the undergraduate GKS program applicants must.

  • Be a citizen of a country designated by Niied.
  • Be under 25 years old as of March 1 2026.
  • Have graduated or be scheduled to graduate from high school or an associate degree program.

New Eligible Countries

Niied has added five new countries to the eligibility list.

  • South Africa
  • Madagascar
  • Syria
  • Czech Republic
  • Cuba

This expansion shows Korea’s goal to promote global academic exchange and support diverse students.

Program Vision

Vice Minister of Education Choi Eun-ok shared the program’s mission. The hope is that outstanding students can study in Korea and prepare for their future through the GKS. The Ministry hopes scholars will contribute to their home countries development. They will also support those who wish to work and settle down in Korea.

The GKS program sarted since 1967 and has supported over 19500 students from 161 countries. It strengthens Korea’s role as a global education hub.

Announcement Timeline

The final results for the 2026 undergraduate program will be announced in January 2026.
