Italian Government Scholarship Overview

The Italian Government Scholarship comes from Italy’s foreign ministry. It is called MAECI grants. The program helps students learn in Italy and share ideas with the world. Eligibility Criteria for 2026 Intake

Here is what you need to apply

1) For Masters Arts Music and Dance programs

You must be 28 years old or younger on the deadline day.
If you are renewing your scholarship this age rule does not matter.

2) Only international students can apply.

You cannot live in Italy.
You cannot be an Italian citizen.

3) For PhD programs

You must be 30 years old or younger on the deadline day.
Renewals are again the only exception.

4) English taught courses do not require Italian.

If your whole course is in English you do not need to know Italian.

5) For research projects

You must be 40 years old or younger on the deadline day.
You also need an English language certificate at the B2 level or higher.

6) For Masters admission

You need to already have a Bachelors degree from your home country.
If you want to start in the second year you must show you passed all your first year subjects.

7) For Italian language and culture courses

You must have an Italian language certificate at the A2 level or higher.

8) For AFAM programs like Arts Music or Dance

You must meet the entry rules of the Italian school you pick.

9) For PhD admission

You must meet the university’s requirements.
You also need a letter of acceptance from the Italian university.

10) For research under academic supervision

You can do your project at approved research places in Italy like CNR, ISS, INFN, INAF or ISPRA.
Your project must be guided by a public university a museum or an archive.
